When performing work in the field, such as service calls and installs, many businesses want to be able to take Payments right there on site. With the TSYS Ovation mobile card reader and Ovation Point-of-Sale app, you can take those card present payments while on site and post those Payments in LOU using Bypass Authorization.
The Ovation mobile card reader and app are an affordable option that allows you to take card present payments in the field. There are a few easy set up steps required before you can use them. Here’s what you need to do:
- Reach out to your Account Manager if you are interested in the Ovation mobile card reader.
- We will order the devices for you.
- Our Team will discuss the affordable options available for you and place the order with TSYS.
- Follow the process below to get set up on the Ovation Point-of-Sale portal and app.
IMPORTANT! All transactions processed through the Ovation mobile app must be entered in LOU Web using Bypass Authorization. You do not want to process the credit card in LOU, charging the client twice.
A Few Important Things to Remember:
- The Ovation Point-of-Sale app is a TSYS app and does not replace LOU Web or LOU Retail POS.
- It should only be used to process Quick Pay transactions.
- All Inventory, Customers, and Totals including Taxes are tracked in LOU.
- Processing Payments this way requires you to manually input the transactions in LOU Web using the Bypass Authorization feature.
- Processing Payments through Ovation will not move inventory in LOU until you input the transaction using Bypass Authorization.

Set Up the Ovation App
Once you have ordered the mobile card reader(s) and you’re ready to set up the app on your mobile deice(s), there are a few things you should consider. To set up the app the way you need to use it alongside LOU, you only need to configure minimal settings. Most of the app should not be used as you will manage those things in LOU Web and LOU Retail POS.
Once the Device ID(s) for the mobile card reader(s) have been entered on your TSYS Merchant Account, TSYS will send you an email containing credentials to sign into the Ovation Point-of-Sale portal and app.
- Log into https://posportal.ovation.us/
- On the menu on the left side of the screen, select Store Setup.
- Select Store Operations
- Scroll down to the Business Options section.
- Check boxes to match this image.
- Make sure the Enable Quick Sale Mode option is checked as this is the only way you will process transactions in the app.
- Do not allow Customers to be created as those are managed in LOU.
- Do not enable Tax features as those are calculated through LOU.
- Do not enable Refunds. Those should be processed through LOU.
- Scroll to Choose Information to Be Collected
- Enable Order Name Only and Customer Invoice Number.
- The other options should remain disabled as these are settings configured by LOU and not necessary in Ovation.
- Using the menu on the left, go to Staff and select Users.
- Create Users for each person who will use the Ovation app.
- This will allow each user to sign in on the Ovation app on their mobile device with a unique username/password. This will help track actions and transactions by user.
REMEMBER! If you make changes to settings after the app has been installed on your mobile device(s), you must sync the app to ensure changes take effect. Follow these steps to sync the app.
Reporting
Most of your reporting will happen in LOU. Once transactions are input using Bypass Authorization, they will appear on the General Ledger and all reports in LOU exactly like card transactions taken in LOU Web or LOU Retail POS. However, you may wish to run a report in Ovation to reconcile with your TSYS Merchant Portal reports and LOU Reports.
To do that, open your Ovation Portal on the web and use the left menu to go to Transactions.
This page will allow you to filter for several data points and view and export reports.
